Challenge Exam for N149 Entrance: Effective fall 2010, all upward mobility students (LVNs and transfer students) will be required to pass a challenge exam prior to entering N149. (These courses can only be taken here at El Camino College, Torrance or Compton Center.) 11. Students applying to the nursing program in fall 2010 must have N48 completed or in progress. NURSING 48 Effective summer 2010, N48 Dosage Calculations will become a two unit class and will be a Nursing Program requirement. This includes students who have taken the DRP test prior to Fall 2009.ΔΆ 10. If you do not pass with a score of 60 or above after one attempt, you must remediate before you can progress into the nursing program. *PLEASE NOTE: The DRP test cannot be taken more than one time. A copy of the DRP score must be submitted with the application. You must schedule an appointment with the Testing Office located in the Student Services Center. (If a student receives a score below 60, the student must complete remediation which includes enrolling in Academic Strategies 1abcd and completing the required 54 class hours). READING ASSESSMENT TEST (DRP): Complete a reading assessment test with a passing score of 60 or greater. NOTE: Students who entered ECC before fall 2009 and have maintained continuous enrollment (catalog rights) will meet the math competency by completion of Elementary Algebra (Math 40 or 43 or equivalent). MATH: Complete Intermediate Algebra (Math 73 or 80 or equivalent) or pass the Math Competency Exam. GPA: Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 in all remaining general education courses required for graduation. REPEATS: No more than one repeat of any substandard grade in the basic science prerequisites (Human Anatomy, Human Physiology, or Microbiology) will be allowed within 7 years of the application filing date. A waiver for the Chemistry prerequisite (for Microbiology and Physiology) may be requested if the student has passed a high school Advanced Placement Chemistry Test with a score of 4 or 5 or has passed the ECC Chemistry Placement Test. Note: Completion of a college-level Chemistry course with a lab is a prerequisite to both Physiology 31 and Microbiology 33 at El Camino College. Failure to submit transcripts with all grades posted will result in disqualification from the application process. For any course in which a grade of C or better was earned, the EARLIEST course grade will be utilized. All science courses must have been completed within seven years prior to the date the application is submitted. PREREQUISITES: Complete the following prerequisite courses to the Nursing Program with a minimum 2.5 grade point average: Anatomy 30 or 32, Physiology 31, or Anatomy 34A/34B and Microbiology 33. INFORMATION SESSION: Attend a mandatory general information session for prospective nursing students. Nursing students will be required to show proof of a valid social security number prior to entry into the nursing program. SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER: The state of California requires all RNs to have a valid social security number. Possession of a current California LVN/LPNs license (if applicable) and employment as LVN/LPNs for at least one year or more. Graduate from high school or earn a passing score on the General Equivalency Diploma (GED) or have earned an associate (AA) or higher degree. Complete the requirements for admission to the college. Prospective nursing students must complete the following steps in advance of the application filing period: 1. Who is eligible for this option? Individuals eligible for this program includes Licensed Vocational Nurses/Licensed Practical Nurses (LVN/LPNs), Licensed Psychiatric Technicians, and transfer students from accredited nursing program. Each application period will last for three weeks. 1 El Camino College ADN Nursing Program Upward Mobility Program (LVN-RN and Transfer Applicants) FILING PERIOD: The El Camino College Nursing Program accepts applications twice a year beginning the third Monday in September and the third Monday in March.
